Chapter 2, page 30 — Global wealth concentration
The book cites Oxfam’s 2017 estimate that eight individuals held as much wealth as the poorest half of humanity, compared with 177 in 2011. Oxfam later noted that an expanded Credit Suisse dataset produced a retrospective 2016 estimate of 61 and that the figures were not directly comparable. The passage therefore reflects Oxfam’s 2017 headline estimate rather than a consistent 177-to-eight trend. The broader argument about extreme wealth concentration remains unchanged
